Stonelands Waste Tor

The Grotto

Also known as 'The Grotto' courtesy of David Ayres, this is a deceptively large tor in that part of Shap Tor Wood known as Stonelands Waste. Difficult to access and assess as it is shrouded in dense vegetation but there are some considerable outcrops here.

It can be reached by taking a short detour from the higher path off Little John's Walk heading towards Shap Tor. The summit rocks, part of the south, can also be seen at a gate on the road between Lower Bowden and Furzeleigh Cross, where its summit lies within a field at SX 8182 7991.

The tor stretches across the top of the wood for about 200 metres, the north section still impressing with a nice stack at SX 8184 8004 and other outcrops below.
